Selection Process - Graduate Program in Astronomy

  1. Candidates applying for the Master's, PhD, and Direct PhD programs in Astronomy at IAG/USP must participate in the Unified Graduate Physics Exam (EUF). The EUF exam will be valid as specified in the public notice.

  2. To apply for the selection process, candidates must submit the required documents online, as specified in the public notice, exclusively through SIAD – https://www.siad-astronomia.iag.usp.br/.

    • The selection process for candidates applying for the Master’s and Direct PhD programs occurs twice a year. The selection process for admission to the PhD (with a Master's degree) is rolling admission. (See the public notices for details)

    • Approved students will be ranked according to their final grades for the allocation of scholarships (if available).

  3. For enrollment, it is mandatory to submit a research proposal, proof of English language proficiency, and the other documents listed in the public notice (for both Brazilian and international candidates).

    • The submitted proposal will be evaluated by the Program Coordinating Committee of the Astronomy Program, which will assess its feasibility and may suggest modifications. Therefore, it is very important that, when choosing the course, you explore the "Research Lines" and their respective "Advisors". The research proposal must be submitted through SIAD.

    • The accepted foreign language proficiency certificates must be consulted in the public notice, along with the minimum required scores. Candidates who have completed an internship in an English-speaking country for more than one year (with proof) will be exempt from these exams.

    • There will be no requirement for proof of proficiency in Portuguese for international students.
